Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about using TholaNow to find jobs in South Africa.

What is TholaNow?

TholaNow is a free job listings platform built specifically for the South African job market. We aggregate vacancies from government departments (DPSA, provincial and municipal bodies), private companies, and established job boards, and present them in a single searchable interface. Our goal is to make it easier for job seekers to find opportunities without visiting dozens of websites.

Is TholaNow free to use?

Yes, TholaNow is completely free. There are no premium tiers, subscription fees, or hidden charges. Every feature on the platform, including job search, CV templates, career guides, and the community forum, is available to all users at no cost.

Do I need to create an account?

No. TholaNow does not require registration or account creation. You can browse jobs, download CV templates, read career guides, and participate in the community forum without signing up. We believe job searching should be accessible to everyone without barriers.

How often are job listings updated?

Our system refreshes job listings daily. Government vacancies are sourced from official DPSA publications and departmental websites. Private sector listings are collected from company career pages and partner job boards. Each listing shows when it was posted and, where available, its closing date so you can prioritise your applications.

How do I apply for a job on TholaNow?

TholaNow does not process job applications directly. When you find a job you are interested in, click the "Apply on source site" button to be taken to the original posting where you can submit your application. This ensures your application goes directly to the employer and your personal information stays under your control.

How do I search for government jobs specifically?

You can visit our dedicated Government Jobs Hub, which shows government vacancies organised by department and province. You can also use the "Government vs Private" filter on the main jobs page to show only government listings. Government jobs typically include positions advertised through the DPSA, provincial departments, and state-owned enterprises.

What CV templates do you offer?

We offer three professionally designed CV templates available for free download in DOCX format. The Classic Academic CV is ideal for graduates and entry-level applicants. The Service and Management CV works well for hospitality, operations, and customer-facing roles. The Modern Finance CV suits accounting, analyst, and corporate positions. Each template is designed to be ATS-friendly and easy to customise. Visit our CV Templates page to download them.

How can I make my CV stand out?

Start with a clear, role-specific profile statement that matches the job you are applying for. Use keywords from the job description, quantify your achievements with numbers where possible, and keep the layout clean and easy to scan. Our CV writing guide covers these points in detail with practical examples for the South African job market.

How do I prepare for a job interview?

Research the company thoroughly, prepare your answers using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result), and practise common interview questions. Prepare thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer, and arrive with all necessary documents. Our interview preparation guide walks through each of these steps with specific advice for South African job interviews.

How do I spot a job scam?

Be cautious of job postings that ask you to pay an application fee, request sensitive information like your ID number or banking details upfront, promise unrealistically high salaries for minimal work, use free email addresses (Gmail, Yahoo) as official contacts, or pressure you to respond immediately. TholaNow runs a basic scam detection check on listings and flags suspicious ones, but no automated system is perfect. Always verify job offers directly with the company through their official website or phone number.

Does TholaNow collect my personal data?

TholaNow collects minimal data. We do not require registration, so we do not store your name, email, or personal details unless you voluntarily submit them through our contact form or community forum. We use cookies only for basic site functionality and analytics (if you consent). Read our full privacy policy for complete details on how we handle data in compliance with POPIA.

How can I report a suspicious job listing?

If you come across a listing that looks fraudulent or misleading, please let us know through our contact page. Include the job title, company name, and a brief description of why you believe it is suspicious. We review reports and remove confirmed fraudulent listings from the platform.

Can I post a job on TholaNow?

TholaNow currently aggregates listings from existing sources rather than accepting direct job postings. If you are an employer and would like your vacancies to appear on TholaNow, please contact us to discuss partnership options.
